Partition

That's where he was born
And grew up stout and tall
It was a good and simple life
All were so kind and warm

Partition came as a razor knife
The warmth gave way to strife
Friends and foes looked alike
People ran for their lives

Horrible and frightening were those times
Everything was left behind
With nothing or whatever one could find
Each one again started his life

As days passed, the decades passed
More and more recollections it brought
Old memories came to haunt
How can one forget that formative past

His heart is still there
Though he breathes here
He continues to live here
But his life is really there

Torn between the two worlds
He has somehow lived his life
But he remembers his old friends
Each day and night

What joins heart to heart
It is not religion but faith
What joins thought to thought
It is not wisdom but trust
And that which joins soul to soul
It is not scripture but love

Boundaries are drawn on the ground to divide
But friendships being thick and deep unite
The friends on either side may meet or not
But their friendship remains everlasting and bright!
