Independence day

Are we bound or independent
Are we helpless or independent
Are we really independent
Though we celebrate our independence

Do we get two square meals a day
And a roof over our head to stay
What to talk of privacy even in name
We want no charity in whatever name

Big promises and bigger talk
That we hear day after day
But we have remained at the same place
Independence day with zest we celebrate

Is it a small thing that we are independent
As a people and as a nation
So what if we remain where we were
Some day we shall see some change

We now hope yet once again
We have seen a spark in his eyes
And he has a fire burning in his belly
He shall surely take us to a different place

We shall then be truly independent
All promises shall be kept when made
We shall remain uppermost in his mind
He was also like us and remembers to this day!
