Go not by the stillness of the sea
turbulent are the waters down deep
when one tries to still his mind
it flutters and struggles like a runaway thief
It's not in its nature to be still
as you pay attention
it jumps and swings
how do the sages keep it on leash
Ignore it for a time being
as it plays its own tricks
like a child rebuffed
it then sulks and stands still
When mind is still
and heart is not
like a pressure cooker
it bursts and hits hard
One may learn to make his mid still
slowly slowly after letting out some steam
a time may come when it obeys your commands
and then a stage when it's still at will
Let me also still my mind
but only as much
that it flows like a stream
humming and whistling as it speeds
The birds appear so lovely
fluttering their wings in the breeze
but one takes a flight higher up
what is it that it sees
So engrossed in mind
it floats effortlessly
higher and higher it goes
to see Him who gave him wings
Let my mind be engrossed
but only in His thoughts
why should I be still
when still there is life in me!
