School of life

Life is a school
for lifelong learning
no amount and kind of learning is enough
and none is a master
but for justification of life
and to live it meaningfully
one needs to be a good student
and a better public servant!

Childhood and maturity

Listen o' child
it will help you
your spontaneity and impulsiveness
are interesting to watch
but what elders are trying to tell you
that you will remember later on
childhood and maturity are poles apart
but a touch of both gives life a lively start!

Emotions

Sometimes no means not no
and yes means yes and no
the language of emotions
is strange and incomprehensible
and yet for every problem
we expect an answer
in a few and clear words!

Doctor and patient

With attentive eyes and healing touch
and by listening before they speak
a doctor heals the patient more
than a course of medicines

Treating the patient as a case
it often makes for a worse case
loss of faith in doctors in general
and the patient poorer in every way

A doctor can aid self healing in a patient
through trust,concern and reassurance
less of medicine has fewer side effects
the doctor finds success and the patient good health

A doctor needs the patient as the patient needs the doctor
the doctor has to heal the patient to become a good doctor
a doctor is a better doctor when more patients are healed
and not when a patient has to make several visits.

Inside world

Wander as far as one can go
but some day they shall come back home
to find for which they went that far
it was already there but they didn't know.

Look as much and wide eyed as one can see
but sometime with eyes closed they look within
to find such wonders which their eyes couldn't see
there is nothing beyond that doesn't exist within.

Travel as much as one can possibly do
but exhausted at times they're confused within
to find how little they can cover with their feet
while imagination focused within goes far and deep.

The effort one puts in to master the things of the world
at the expense of working on the enrichment of the soul
they may feel exalted in the materialistic world
but end up poorer than who work on their spirit and the soul.

Rich and poor

The poor have worries
and nothing much to hang onto life
for what can it offer they think
but prolonged poverty.

The rich have much to worry about
to hang on to life somehow
to keep their wealth safe and sound
and be in limelight anyhow.

Into rich and poor
wealth divides the world
arrogance comes with wealth
and the poor feel powerless.

Neither rich are at peace
nor the poor can live in peace
wealth is not the culprit
but the greed of the rich!

Inspiration

Inspiration does it come from nowhere
or one has to work hard to get inspired.
When hard work leads to nowhere
and one takes a break from work,
like a bolt the inspiration strikes
but does it elude the idle minds.
From wherever it comes
and to whomsoever it does
it takes hard work to make it work!

Son and daughter

"A son is a son till he marries
a daughter is a daughter for life"
son lives in the present and forgets the past
a daughter lives both her present and past
while son goes distant
the daughter is ever close to their heart
Parents feel relieved when they marry off their daughter
however their problems multiply when they bring in a daughter in law
a daughter becomes a daughter in law in her new house
while son doesn't even feel like a son in his own house
his wife wants him to be a man
and the parents want their son back!

Keep flowing

When we feel we're at the top of the world
there's a risk we may fall and hurt ourselves
when we're tired and exhausted
we may be given heavier responsibility
when we want to rest and introspect
we don't find a moment to ourselves
things normally don't go the way we expect
and there is no inner space separate from ourselves
so one has to be at peace with whatever life has to offer
and keep flowing like water which always finds a way!

Parents and children

Like prince and princess
live the children
in their parents house
and when parents are old
and children married
they set up their own home
where parents visit
but as guests
and if they stay longer
they're not welcome
parents know it
but they still love them
as their own children
while they themselves
become strangers

to their own children!

Guru and seeker

A guru shows the way and leaves
not waiting to see the impact they leave
going from place to place to spread their message
no disciples but some private space they need

Another guru is accompanied by disciples
who do their bidding
and keep a distance between
the guru and the public

And some gurus stay at a place
public visits to seek their blessings
in the belief that the guru will fulfill all their wishes
without them having to do anything

Wishes are fulfilled
or wishes are belied
for the benefit of soul
and welfare of humankind

gurus can only show the way
rest is to be done
by the seekers themselves
and there is no shorter way

fruits are not
in the hands of anyone
neither of the guru
nor the seeker

both have to do their duty
guru as an enlightened facilitator
and seekers for dispelling their darkness
everyone for their own salvation.

Irony of life

Death unites life divides
isn't this the irony of life?
when life survives there is joy
when death overpowers hearts grieve
both have deep meaning
which is lost when life is lived in usual way
Life becomes difficult and death a bigger pain!

Another star

There is another star in the sky
this night
the day is less bright
and the sky brighter
this night
the light has gone out of this world
and now lights the night sky!

Pen and words

Words cut deep
pen goes deeper
to dissect each tendon
and to touch every nerve
but it needs words
to stitch every cut
or leave it as such!

Peace

Peace of mind is important
no cost is enough to obtain it
all we have is of no use
when there is no peace to enjoy them

peace is invaluable in life
for in any case one will find peace
when there is no life
but that is dead peace!

Mistakes

To repeat the same mistakes
that is stagnation
when we commit new ones
we tread a new path
and when we commit no mistakes
either we are not trying or not trying too hard!

High goals

One would like to have an ideal
to which one aspires but falls short.
We are all humans with our faults
yet we set for ourselves high goals
We would like to see us there
and that keeps us moving
That we fall short that's not the problem
what matters is how hard we work to close the gap.

So we become

When in company of children
we become children

when among trees and birds
we come close to nature

as we choose our company
so we become

and when there is no choice
let us try to be our own self

like lotus surrounded with mud
yet being in its very nature it blooms at its best!

Full circle

A child brings out the child in us
as we play with them
it reminds us of our own childhood

When we grow up and stand on our feet
our parents yet see a child in us
and it takes them back to their own childhood

The childhood is that part of life
which is most pure and innocent
but we long all our life to scale new heights

When we are tired and exhausted with life
we look at children with renewed interest and new eyes
and become like them in our older life.

Moderation

Discipline and moderation
can go side by side
nothing wrong to indulge
once a while
natural food and natural remedy
they work wonders
but medical interventions may become necessary
at times
both have their place
one given by nature for free
and the other chemically made
which may injure as well as heal
but if there were a choice
let the nature work to heal!
